Facial recognition access control replaces the tag, the remote and the visitor book with the one credential nobody can lend, forget or clone. Openitem registers a face once and from then on a resident, a staff member or a regular visitor is recognised at the gate, the door or the turnstile in about a second.

What separates it from a camera that merely matches faces is the validation step. The ID number given at registration is checked against Home Affairs, so the face on file is tied to a verified identity rather than to whatever name someone typed — which is the difference between knowing a face is the same face, and knowing whose face it is.

The hardware features temperature scanning capabilities. Thus, the user’s Facial ID and temperature is registered simultaneously.

The prospective visitor or resident/tenant registers a visitor’s profile, uploads or captures a facial image and on arrival, a quick scan grants them access to the respective estate or park.

1. Complete your profile in user settings.
2. Enter ID and contact details — these are what the Home Affairs lookup checks against.
3. Upload a photo, or capture one in the app.
4. Wait for approval: the estate confirms the profile.
5. Gain access: scan your face on arrival.

The terminals come from OSIRIS, whose non-contact facial verification devices add mask detection and body-temperature scanning — so a face, a mask check and a temperature are taken in the same scan, whether the person is a visitor, a resident or a staff member clocking in. The TMT-8 Terminal carries the same capability at a fraction of the cost of a thermal camera.

Every one of these devices also feeds Openitem's online Time & Attendance, so the scan that opens the door is the same scan that records the shift.
